Therapeutic Approach

I have been a practising as a therapist since 1998 and am committed to providing individually tailored therapeutic work. I regard my work and the clients I treat with the upmost respect and as such keep up to date with my own ongoing professional development. Entering therapy can be a daunting process and I see the need to offer clients an opportunity to talk openly about what is happening in their lives.

Often problems occur, not because of our feelings but in how we deal with our feelings. We are often taught that certain feelings are 'good or 'bad' and so, over time we learn how to switch off or control our emotions in a range of different ways without realising that they are there for a reason. There is a tremendous amount of wisdom to our feelings, if only we dare pay the right attention to them. Our feelings teach us who we are, what we like, what's acceptable, when to say yes and importantly, when to say no. They help us set boundaries and define our own sense of morality.

So, in my therapeutic approach, we move away from judging ourselves and our feelings and towards learning about our feelings and therefore ourselves. We develop personal insight. However in my experience insight alone is not enough. We need to move from insight to action. This is crucial as without this we are simply 'aware' of our behaviour but can lack the means to get beyond these patterns. We can end up feeling stuck and unable to move forward.

My integrated approach to therapy helps the client move from insight to action as this is where the true transformation occurs. We will put in place an individual treatment plan that will address the areas of concern and work together to keep this process moving. We will review our sessions and ask questions about how the therapy is progressing. Through this journey of personal development, we learn how to manage our emotions and develop a reliable foundation built on self-awareness and self-esteem.

I work with individuals, couples, families and groups on an open-ended basis or for an agreed time period, with the aim of enabling you to enhance your life and live it more fully.
